It’s been awhile since I’ve participated in Velvet Verbosity’s 100 word challenge but I’ve been mulling this one over for a few days now. This morning my muse nudged me awake, filling out the specifics as I came to full consciousness. Usually I’d post this on my “writing blog” but I think I’ll just keep one this year…less to keep up with!
This challenge’s word – doorway.

She stared at the brick wall in frustration. For years she had fought for and focused on…this? She sobbed as she battled futilely, fingers bleeding, head and body bruised. Finally a quiet voice pierced her consciousness.
“My child, why do you mourn for that which never existed?”
“Go away” she growled “You led me here to abandon me.”
“This path you forged was of your own making. I have not forsaken you.”
Slowly she turned her focus from the unmoving wall. Scattered across the landscape were a thousand doorways.
“Come my child. Let me lead you to your true path.”
I love this — I can hear the soft gentle voice of the muse speaking, truning her in the right direction. Wonderful writing.
Ooooh I’m sensing a double meaning. seems accurate to say people have a tendency to get stuck trying to go one way, so stubborn they don’t see all the other doors. I like your description of it.
Just beautiful and very meaningful to me personally right now. Thank you for sharing it.
Seems like everyone has been at that brick wall feeling bruised and hopeless. Nice piece. Thanks for joining in again and be sure to visit tomorrow to see who is getting the first book.
I love exploring the ‘internal’, the voices that sometimes come to us – if we’re lucky. Well done. Very, very, well done.
