100 Words – Occupy

I missed a week but am back to join Velvet Verbosity and the word nerd crew for the 100 Word Challenge.  This week’s prompt is “occupy”.

Here the houses are mostly abandoned, the buildings run down. Weeds grow through cracks in the sidewalks, and trash skitters down the street, pushed by the cold wind.

Here the people are mostly abandoned, their bodies run down. Desperation seeps through cracks in their spirits. They huddle against sagging walls, pushed into corners by the cold, cutting wind.

Here are buildings longing to be homes, occupied by appreciative hearts. Here are people whose hearts long to occupy and lovingly maintain buildings turned homes. The answer to a seemingly insurmountable problem is beautiful in its simplicity-if we would only allow it.
